The European BEST Engineering Competition (EBEC) gathers over 6.500 students making it the Biggest Engineering Competition in Europe. EBEC challenges students to work in teams and use their technical and soft skills to solve engineering problems. The students start by participating in a local round held at 52 universities and its winners attend one of the 9 national or regional rounds they belong to. Then 120 Top European Technical Students compete at the final event.
EBEC Iberia is the second phase of this competition. The winning teams of the Portuguese and Spanish local rounds from 7 universities will compete for a spot in EBEC Final (Zagreb, Croatia). EBEC Portugal and EBEC Spain merged into this new format, EBEC Iberia in which a total of 14 teams (56 participants) will face either two Case Studies or one Team Design and one Innovative Design. We aim to challenge students of technology out of their comfort zone by exploring and experimenting with new ideas and working methods!
Case Study tests the students’ ability for solving real-life problems which the engineering society faces today. It is developed in a theoretical context and the participants have access to various research tools and realistic resources to come up with a solution.
Challenges the ability and practical skills of the participants, who must design, build and assemble a functional device as a solution to a problem in a limited time. Ather the time is up, the participating teams will present their solution and perform a live demonstration of their device, proving its effectiveness in front of the jury.
Participants should combine their creativity and knowledge to develop new technological designs or improve upon existing ones. Their professional presentation should demonstrate the technical, social, environmental and economic impact of their design.
BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) is a non-profit and volunteering European organisation for students of technology. Since 1989, we have been creating a growing, dynamic, innovative and well-organised network of students, which provides complementary education for students by encouraging communication, cooperation and exchange of students in the exclusive technical universities and faculties. Our priority is to offer high-quality services to technical students from all over Europe.
